Clay Helton is 6-6 in two regular seasons, and 0-2 in bowl games.\u00a0 Defense has been a problem.\u00a0 This is year #3.\u00a0 Another season at 6-6 would typecast him as an average at best coach.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Georgia Southern NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s four keys I listed when prepping for this writeup: 1: QB play and turnovers.\u00a0 I think improvement at QB is entirely possible, as QB Brin\u2019s two-school career was marked by excessive interceptions.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soph QB French has thrown 16 passes in his career, so he, or any of the new QB\u2019s will need to be vetted.\u00a0 2: OL play.\u00a0 Sacks allowed went from just 7 to 34 last year.\u00a0 There\u2019s only modest returning talent, but there is a new OL coach.\u00a0 3: DL living up to expectations.\u00a0 They have massive returning experience and a couple of guys are on the Sun Belt preseason 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> team list.\u00a0 Can the 4.55 run defense improve?\u00a0 4: Better red zone performance.\u00a0 Last year\u2019s PK was 17-18 inside of 40 yards.\u00a0 That\u2019s too many attempts.\u00a0 In other observations, The RB room is really good, five of the top six tacklers return, and there will be a new PK, who shows promise, but has big shoes to fill.\u00a0\u00a0

Georgia Southern Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

7-5, but that\u2019s dependent on (anticipated) defensive improvement.\u00a0 5-7 is the floor, and right now the season win total is 5.5, with OVER +115.\u00a0 I\u2019d like to see 5, but over 5.5 is something I\u2019m taking a close look at.\u00a0 Anything less than a bowl bid would be an indictment on Clay Helton. <\/strong>
