Rice College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Holy Smokes!\u00a0 Mike Bloomgren is that VERY rare coach who exited my bottom five coaches list and was NOT fired.\u00a0 Okay, he\u2019s still on the next five, waiting to be readmitted list, but I\u2019ve seen some signs of improvement.\u00a0 There\u2019s a bunch of reasons why Rice can continue to improve, so let\u2019s see if the upward trajectory continues.\u00a0\u00a0

2024 Rice NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Two offensive players will be sorely missed.\u00a0 QB Daniels put up #\u2019s not recently seen by Rice QB\u2019s.\u00a0 WR Luke McCaffrey exhibited the same special qualities his more famous brother is blessed with.\u00a0 The good news is that the offense still has talent.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

E.J. Warner, like Daniels before him, has a transfer gene in his DNA.\u00a0 If turnovers can be reduced, the level of QB play will be fine.\u00a0 Rice has a solid feature RB, decent returning WR\u2019s, and two well thought of OL.\u00a0 They are short three OL starters, so that\u2019s an issue.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defense made strides in \u201923, with the run D in a solid category, and the pass D% finally dropping below 60%.\u00a0 Nine starters return, including their top six tacklers.\u00a0 This veteran D \u201cshould\u201d take the next step, but I\u2019d rather chart that out and not assume it will happen.\u00a0 Their PK was 8-12.\u00a0 That\u2019s acceptable (3-5 from 40-49 yards), but also indicates to me that there were not as many trips to the red zone as expected.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rice NEVER has an acceptable turnover ratio (needs to be more aggressive defensively).\u00a0 They were -7 in \u201823\u2019s regular season, and an amazing -7 in their bowl loss.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Rice Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With even a FLAT turnover ratio, Rice, with experience defensively, should return to a bowl game.\u00a0 That experience is valuable early in the year when facing new staffs.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I still can\u2019t find more than 6-6, and one slipup means 5-7 (grid calls it 6.3 wins).\u00a0 With UNDER 7 season wins out there (Caesars, William Hill), that seems like a number I want to be on, as I still do not trust this staff.\u00a0\u00a0
