Gonzaga vs Loyola Marymount Analysis<\/h2>\n

The Bulldogs continue to be the bullies of the West Coast Conference, winning their first four league games by 34, 26, 33 and 16 points. And those were against some of the best teams in the conference (BYU, Santa Clara and San Francisco).There’s a pretty notable drop-off between those teams and the Loyola Marymount squad that Gonzaga will see on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Best in the Country<\/h3>\n

Gonzaga is No. 2 in the country in offensive efficiency; No. 1 in effective field goal percentage; and No. 1 in two-point shooting. The Bulldogs are making 63.2-percent of their shots from inside the arc, which is more than three percentage points better than the No. 2 team (Belmont).<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs play at the third-quickest pace in the country, with two of their last four games reaching a NASCAR-level 90 possessions. Gonzaga has scored 90+ points in five of their last six games, including 117 against Pepperdine and 115 against Santa Clara.<\/p>\n

Good Luck, Lions<\/h3>\n

Loyola enjoyed a very respectable non-conference schedule with wins over SMU and Tulsa, but there are two red flags on the Lions’ resume as they prepare for the trip to Spokane. First, Loyola is No. 342 in turnover percentage, losing the basketball on 22.3-percent of their possessions.<\/p>\n

Second, remember how good we said Gonzaga was from inside-the-arc? Loyola is No. 286 in two-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot 52.4-percent from inside. Loyola prefers to play small-ball, with 6-7 Dameane Douglas often defending the paint. That might be a tough ask against Gonzaga’s 6-10 junior Drew Timme, who shot 27-of-32 against BYU and Santa Clara two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
