Texas Tech College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Counting a 2-0 bowl record, Texas Tech is 15-11 under Joey McGuire.  Maybe he\u2019s not getting enough credit?   <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Texas Tech NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Last year\u2019s projected starting lineup showed 10 seniors and 10 juniors.  They are clearly younger this year, especially at WR, and in the back seven defensively.  Overall, there\u2019s just one projected senior starter on the defense.  RB Brooks is outstanding.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OL may slip just a bit, and loses their OL coach.  That\u2019s a must watch area.  While my projected #\u2019s won\u2019t change much (easier schedule), there\u2019s work to be done defensively, starting with the pass rush, and continuing with the loss of a few key performers.  Tim DeRuyter is a highly experienced coordinator, so that might help.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Texas Tech was 5-4 in the Big 12 a year ago, but with just a 218-248 point ratio.  The very consistent turnover ratio over the past four years has averaged -7.  Improve that area and some points can be made up.

I used to feel (and still feel) that the middle of the ACC is interchangeable.  I feel the same way about the newly configured Big 12.  That means little things (schedule nuggets, kicking, coaching moves) matter.  Those areas are mostly stable with Texas Tech, but the road record has to improve and the younger squad could be more vulnerable, as compared to in \u201923.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think 7.5 is an accurate figure for this team, but I\u2019ll lean 7-5 just a bit more than 8-4.  Let\u2019s see if the turnover ratio can improve, which would be a massive help. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
