Iowa State College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Put up or shut up!  Matt Campbell is rightfully considered a solid coach, but the last time his team had big expectations they finished 7-6.<\/strong>  They are 18-18 the last three seasons, and an additional 0-2 in bowl games.  This may be his best team yet.  It\u2019s time to live up to the hype. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Iowa State NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is the 3rd season in a row Iowa St has a new offensive coordinator.  It\u2019s another in-house promotion, but still, something to watch.  Raw QB Becht had a promising debut.  Can he grow even more?  RB Samu had two solid games, and is hyped big-time now.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st, can he be the answer all season long, and 2nd, I have a real concern about the depth behind him.  I\u2019ve actually dropped the run projection for \u201924, but I\u2019ll check to see if I am too low.  The WR and the OL room look good, and ready to deliver.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defensive coordinator is one of the best.  He gets his top five tacklers back, and I have them at or near the top of all Big 12 defenses.  The projected run D is at 3.65 per carry (4.0 was their closing figure in \u201923).  The pass D% is projected at 56%.  Iowa St gets involved in quite a few close games due to their style of play.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one MAJOR concern I have is close game kicking.  They go from a solid PK to a redshirt freshman.  This will be charted all season long.

Iowa State Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

his DC is so good that all Iowa St needs to do is stay healthy at RB (one guy), and hope their raw PK is a good one.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barring an upset, their season will come down to their final two games, at Utah, and home to Kansas St.\u00a0 Their season win total is set at 7.5, and that\u2019s the number I initially get when projecting their win total.\u00a0 <\/strong>That\u2019s not good enough to get them into the Big 12 Title game.\u00a0 I like the talent on the team and the coaching, but their history is not finishing close games, and for \u201924, kicking is the big-ticket item.\u00a0\u00a0
