Baylor College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When Baylor went 6-6 in \u201922 I was not alarmed, as there were massive reasons why they figured to drop all the way down from 12-2.  I predicted 6-6 that year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did not predict 3-9 for \u201923.  Nearly fired, Dave Aranda was proactive, and had a master plan for improvement ready to go literally seconds after the season ended.  That impressed the AD.   This season should be interesting.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Baylor NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It all started with coaching \u201cchanges\u201d.  Baylor bought coordinator Jake Spavital from cash poor California, and that\u2019s an upgrade.  Seven starters return, but all eyes will be on transfer QB Dequan Finn, who had a productive career at Toledo.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I expect improvement across the board offensively.  Aranda has said on more than one occasion<\/strong> how he plans to be much more hands-on with the defense, his previous calling card.  That\u2019s a good thing, as the now 2nd<\/sup> year coordinator saw every key defensive metric regress last season.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top five tacklers return, but pass pressure will need to be replenished.  JUCO nose tackle Tonga Lolohea is on my watch list, as he is needed badly to help reduce Baylor\u2019s unusually high 5.25 per carry run D.  I like the secondary and my projections have them improving vs. the pass.  Kicking is average.

Baylor Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I like Aranda as a coach, and I like how he recognized the need to change his offense and his early willingness to put forward a detailed attack plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think they can reach 6-6 and get to a bowl game this year.  Much depends on how QB Finn fares in a power conferenc<\/strong>e, and if Aranda can stabilize a defense that has regressed badly from their banner \u201922 campaign.  An upset or two this season would hardly be surprising. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
