Virginia Tech College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brent Pry started his career 2-8, with one of those wins coming vs Wofford 27-7 (favored by 38).  Tech went 6-6 (7-6 counting a bowl victory) last year, but that included a 5-3 mark down the stretch, all in the ACC.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This team is getting a lot of love entering \u201924.  Let\u2019s see if the hype is well-founded.  <\/strong>

2024 Virginia Tech NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In a rarity, EVERY offensive starter returns from last year<\/strong>.  QB Drones had a 17-3 ratio and can run as well.  As long as he stays healthy this unit should continue to improve.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My run projection is 5.05 per carry.  I like the group, but it\u2019s not at or near the top of the ACC.  OL continuity however, cannot be overstated.  Nine of their top 12 tacklers return.  Tech looks average in the trenches, but should improve defending the pass.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defensive sacks rose from 23 (in 11 games) to 39 (in 13 games).  Any drop in pass pressure should be minimal.  The PK was 22-24.  The pieces are there for continued improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8-4, and with so much returning talent, that really should be the floor.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think they \u201conly\u201d start 3-1, and I have them at 5-3 in the ACC.  Run only QB Schlee (UCLA) is the backup in case Drones gets hurt.  There\u2019s a path to the ACC title game as long as they go at least 1-1 in games at Miami and home to Clemson.  7-5 would be a letdown in \u201924.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
