Stanford College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stanford had a MAJOR hand in killing PAC 12, beginning about 2013.  What\u2019s next for their on-field fortunes after going a combined 9-27 the past three seasons? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Stanford NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I think 2nd<\/sup> year coach Troy Taylor can get this right.  The offense stalled a year ago (did not regress or improve) but had only three returning starters.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They now return six full-time starters, and another four players with quality starts.  The run game may be the biggest worry, as that unit looks mediocre.  The OL has talent, but is on the youngish side.  Stanford allowed 41 sacks a year ago, so that\u2019s an obvious must watch area.  I have a bigger concern defensively, and I think the staff on this side of the ball is average at best.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They allowed 42 or more points in six of their final eight games.  They\u2019ll clearly face softer QB\u2019s in \u201924, so the 66+% defense should improve (projected 61.5%).  Stanford was able to keep eight defensive starters.  I expect improvement, but will not predict massive improvement.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, what I\u2019ve noted sounds like a team that could challenge for a bowl berth.  If that is to be the case, close game kicking will be critical.  Unfortunately, my #1 rated PK, Karty, is now in the NFL.  Three untested players will vie for the job, with one a touted freshman.  This will be a week to week watch area<\/em><\/strong>, which it should be for everyone!

Stanford Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Stanford will be poised to do great things\u2026\u2026in 2025!  They have just one SR and four juniors on offense, and both the run game and OL will be much more experienced a year from now.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They may need a season to figure out their PK, and to decide if their current defensive coordinator is good enough.  This might top out at 4-8, but the more important conclusion will be to determine if Stanford is on the right track.<\/strong>  I think they stay home in \u201824, but if things progress, that changes in \u201925.
