UNC College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mack Brown is an above average coach, but for the 2nd straight season, the Tar Heels imploded down the stretch.  Outscored 100-50 in their final three games, another season ended on a downer.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet another new defensive coordinator will try to fix things in \u201824.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 UNC NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s begin with the defense.  Last year I asked if Gene Chizik was the answer?  He was not, and Geoff Collins is the new guy in town.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On paper, the talent is the same or a bit better (much more experienced), but take out two games (South Carolina, Campbell) and the defense produced just 14 sacks in the remaining 11 games, this after just 17 sacks in 14 games played in \u201922.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That has to change!  Other than that, I\u2019m only slightly improving the defensive #\u2019s.  Offensively, Max Johnson (LSU and A&M) replaces Drake Maye, while RB Hampton (1,504-5.9, 15 rush TD\u2019s) returns as one of the top NCAA RB\u2019s.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like this WR unit, but the OL is down some and may continue to be sack prone.  The theme in the ACC is solid kicking.  Their kicker was 19-20.  <\/strong>

UNC Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If we FINALLY see defensive improvement then 10-2 is in play.  If not, so is 7-5 for UNC.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The telling points will be defensive pass pressure, and points allowed, especially in the 4th quarter.  I think this can get to 8-4, and maybe even 9-3 (no play for me on the overs).  Like it or not, another mediocre finish to the season might have fans calling for Mack Brown to retire.
