Texas A&M College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what I wrote in this space a year ago: Can supporters (and the media) be patient if the Aggies show only modest improvement in \u201923?  If there are no portal defections, I truly believe this is a top 12 team in the 1st<\/sup> year of the new playoff format<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patience?  Forget it.  With Texas joining the SEC, Texas A&M just got \u201crelegated\u201d.  Mike Elko arrives to only a small dose of fanfare.  12-13 (their record these past two seasons) doesn\u2019t sit well in College Station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Texas A&M NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Soph QB Weigman returns and is on an upward trajectory.  The RB room is deep.  Elko has a decent track record with the run game, and new coordinator Collin Klien comes from run-solid Kansas St.  I\u2019m moving the figures up, from 4.1 to a projected 4.7 per carry.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two solid WR\u2019s are gone but the room remains talented.  The OL also has enough talent to make a difference.  Defensively, top tackler Cooper was dynamic, but he\u2019s off to the NFL.  This is where a number of highly touted players decided to transfer out, which is unfortunate.  Four power five transfers will start in \u201924, but there will be a rise in yards-per-carry from a stout 3.6 (4.15 projected).  The secondary is projected to be decent, but a bit down from last season.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duke\u2019s special team coach was solid under Elko.  He joins Elko here.  I noted in the Texas write-up that the team tried a too high 35 field goals, and 19 inside of 40 yards.  The same was true here.  Texas A&M had 17 attempts inside of 40 yards, and 35 attempts in total.  Can that be fixed?

Texas A&M Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I was right about 7-5 last year.  I like Elko, and by SEC standards, the schedule is decent (no Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma or Tennessee). <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to completing my comprehensive scheduling grid, I had a strong UNDER 8.5 wins lean.  After the scheduling grid was completed, I made the play<\/em><\/strong>.  I see either 8-4 or 7-5 this season.  The backfield is good, but the new staff must quickly (thanks to the early schedule) figure things out in the red zone.  The defense is good, yet not quite as good as in \u201923.  This team will give 100% all season long, but let\u2019s see if they can play better on the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
