UCLA College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once a tough person to like, Chip Kelly became less guarded with the media, and I felt he became deadly accurate about how the game was changing, and not in a good way.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelly detested recruiting, and became one of several coaches to leave his Head Coaching job for a simpler life.\u00a0 DeShaun Foster may very well put the spark back into this program.\u00a0 The new question is this: Is he Head Coaching material?\u00a0\u00a0

2024 UCLA NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I thought Ethan Garbers was their best QB in \u201923, and T.J. Harden their best RB.  They return, but must stay healthy, as this year there\u2019s no backup plan.  The talent is better at WR\/TE, but let\u2019s not describe it as elite.  The OL should be at least competent.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Bieniemy is a fiery coordinator.  If he doesn\u2019t overdue things, the players will play hard for him.  I like the nose tackle, so even though I project a rise in the run D (4.3, was an amazing 2.85 last season), I think UCLA will slow down many of the Big Ten\u2019s rush attacks.  Five transfers will start on defense, three in the rebuilt secondary.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s a must watch area.  UCLA had 43 defensive sacks in \u201923.  With stud edge rusher Latu gone, this figure will drop, maybe significantly.  Special team play fell completely off the map under Kelly.  Transfers take over, but the Bruins are not paying enough attention to this area of play (one made kick over 40 yards last year, 6-11 overall).

There\u2019s radical player, coaching, and conference change here.\u00a0 This looks 5-7 (I went UNDER 5.5), but 6-6 is possible if they stay healthy, and special team play improves.\u00a0 How ready is Foster to run the entire show?\u00a0 My scheduling grid calls 5-7 as the ceiling.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>
