Minnesota College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

P.J. Fleck rubs some people the wrong way, but he gets the most out of the talent at hand.  Last year was disappointing, and at 5-7, they only made a bowl game because not enough teams were eligible.  Do they rebound, or is the luster wearing off?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Minnesota Gophers NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s start with the defense.  The new coordinator might be a downgrade.  If his scheme is sound, pass pressure will ramp up (good returning nucleus).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The secondary lost Tyler Nubin to the NFL.  That\u2019s my biggest worry on this side of the ball.  Minny\u2019s 4.0 run attack was their worst under Fleck.  It should spike up again now, with more RB experience, plus four returning OL starters.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I strongly disliked their \u201923 QB.  The new guy has plenty of starting experience, but that was at New Hampshire.  Turnovers must be monitored.  The WR\/TE room is mediocre.  The kicking game is solid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6-6 or just 5-7?  In some ways, Minny is flying under the radar, and I do think the stat sheet will improve, especially in the run game.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

My worries are the defensive coordinator switch, the young secondary, and some turnover issues.  I\u2019m intrigued by what they might look like in \u201924, but find it best right now to go in with an open mind.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
