Michigan State College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Michigan State (MSU) has made some curious and expensive coaching hires lately.  They printed money to get Mel Tucker, who was fired for cause.  When can MSU become relevant again? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Michigan State Spartans NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

THIS IS a massive staff upgrade, even if it pains me to say it.  While MSU lost plenty of players once the coaching change was announced, many of the incoming transfers have high ceilings.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aiden Chiles might become an electric QB.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was just 17 when he enrolled at THE OSU, and his stat sheet was special.  Smith has always fielded a solid rush attack.  That may wait a season, as the RB room lacks talent.  Still, I have the run O at 4.0 per carry (3.3 last year) because Smith brought with him a solid TE, a potential NFL draftee at center, and the nation\u2019s best, or 2nd best OL coach (well known in NCAA circles).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSU averaged a putrid 12 points per game in the Big 10.  That should go up a modest amount now.  Joe Rossi (Minnesota) was a solid hire at defensive coordinator.  The top four tacklers return, but overall depth took a hit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five transfers are slated to start, four in the front seven.  I\u2019m not predicting massive change in the defensive #\u2019s, but I do think it\u2019s important to monitor the weekly stat sheet.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DB\u2019s are fairly young.  Kicking is decent.  The return game needs some help, but at OSU, Smith\u2019s return units were fantastic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

QB Chiles must stay healthy, and it would help if a feature RB was found.  The young secondary is also something to monitor.  3-5 is the ceiling for games 1-8, which could give this team a fighting shot at 6-6.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current projection is 5-7, but regardless, this requires some faith they will be competitive right out of the gate.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, I\u2019m most proud of the fact that I kept my composure writing this preview.  Now, it\u2019s time to go to Goodwill and pick up some used college merchandise (bitter inside joke).
