Indiana College Football 2024 Preview: What’s the Situation?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In \u201919 and \u201920 Indiana went 14-5 in the regular season.  They went 9-27 since then, and 3-24 in Big 10 play.  Curt Cignetti might just be a splash hire.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highly confident (yes, I watched many of his recent interviews), he basically has the slogan, \u201cwe win, join us\u201d!  I\u2019ve always wondered why football here never has taken hold. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Indiana NCAAF AREAS TO WATCH:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The James Madison to the Big Ten experiment is underway.  The key staff members came with Cignetti.  At least ten players, nine of the slated to start, are from James Madison.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s telling in two ways.  1st<\/sup>, Indiana talent was weak.  2nd<\/sup>, the staff believes these players are capable of making the (big) leap to a Power 2 conference.  QB Rourke comes from Ohio U.  His #\u2019s are impressive and he is an upgrade.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indiana has never had a solid run game, at least since \u201918.  I can\u2019t make my projection very high, but I will chart the newcomers to see if I am too low on them.  The OL coach here remains.  Is that a good thing?  I\u2019m also keeping the defensive #\u2019s flat (4.5 run D, 61.5% pass D).  Perhaps coaching will elevate things, but Tom Allen was defensive minded.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four transfers start on the DL, and two more at LB and DB.  The experiment continues.  Two kickers compete to replace a guy who was average at his craft.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to charting basically EVERYTHING, I\u2019d like to see the pass pressure ramp up.  The James Madison pass rush was strong.  One more thought: Cignetti said on more than one occasion that team speed is his biggest worry.  Could that mean \u201924 is a bridge\/learning year?

Indiana Football 2024 Predicted Total Wins Prediction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A soft 6-6?  I went OVER 5 wins (5.5 at +130 was available, but there\u2019s been action on Indiana lately)<\/em><\/strong>, knowing that it\u2019s more conjecture than solid stat sheet facts at this point.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The comment about team speed worries me, but despite the conference differences, I think Indiana has upgraded the roster in the transfer portal.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chemistry can be hard to achieve early, so let\u2019s hope the low quality of the September opponents helps in that regard.
