Euro 2024 Group A Preview & Best Picks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first of the groups taking place in this year\u2019s European Championships sees three-time winners Germany get paired up with Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland in what is set up to be a competitive group overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With newly appointed manager Julian Nagelsmann looking to lead Germany into their first major tournament on home soil in almost two decades, it\u2019s no surprise to see Die Mannschaft go in as heavy favorites to top this group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, with a Scotland team that looked good in qualifying, plus two teams in both Switzerland and Hungary that Germany have had limited success against across recent years (not having beaten Switzerland since 2008 and Hungary handing them a 1-0 loss in the Nations League last time out as well), Germany likely won\u2019t have it all their own way when Group A kicks off on June 14th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the dismissal of Hansi Flick at the end of last year, Germany has noticed an uptick in form under Julian Nagelsmann, beating World Cup finalists France twice in back-to-back meetings along with securing a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands back in March as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With players such as Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, and Florian Wirtz, Germany\u2019s high-press style with pace down the wings is going to be very hard for any team to deal with in this competition. Mix in that voracious home support on top and the Germans are deserved favorites to top Group A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Switzerland<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A team that historically has always tended to navigate its way out of difficult groups in major competitions, needing to go all the way back to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to find the last time Switzerland failed to qualify from a group stage, it’s no real surprise to see this experienced Swiss side being priced up as second favorites to progress from this group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite their solid tournament form, Switzerland looks a lot more fragile than in years past, finishing runners-up behind Romania during qualifying and even more concerning than that, allowing over twice as many goals as the Romanians did also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Swiss could well struggle to land a top-two spot in this group as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
