Though, this is a different course than the players faced last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, technically, it\u2019s the same club, as Colonial is the only venue to host this tournament in its 78 years, but it underwent some major renovations with every hole on the course being touched in some way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Par remains the same as the course plays to a stock par-70 with just two par 5s, though the overall yardage has increased by about 80 yards to nearly 7,300 in total. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two of the par 3s have entirely new green locations and all 18 holes feature new bentgrass greens. Past winners include Justin Rose, Kevin Kisner, Chris Kirk and Zach Johnson and if their skillsets tell us anything, it\u2019s that you don\u2019t have to be a long hitter to win here, though it always helps, if you can keep it straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of the last two winners, Grillo last year and Sam Burns in 2022, both failed to reach 10-under par, and last year\u2019s edition barely saw the winds kick into gear which will not be the case this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are expected to be standard Texas winds, meaning steady 10-20mph with likely higher gusts. The good news is rain is only in the forecast for the opener with the field set to dodge thunderstorms on Thursday, before temperatures climb into the low-90s for the remaining three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the field is understandably much weaker than we saw at last week\u2019s major, but world #1 Scottie Scheffler, fresh of his arrest at the PGA (!) headlines the field along with fellow Texan, Jordan Spieth. Collin Morikawa and Max Homa are the other Top-10 players in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charles Schwab Challenge Outright Winners: Harris English +3500 (DraftKings or FanDuel)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/wt.buzz\/nb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Borrman<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>English has quietly been playing consistently over the last ten months with just one missed cut dating back to last year\u2019s Open Championship. That run of 17 tournaments saw him finish T22 or better more than 50% of the time, nine of 17 starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His run includes excellent results on tough tracks with deep fields: a T18 at the PGA Championship, a T22 at the Masters, a T19 at THE PLAYERS, a T21 at the Arnold Palmer, and 7th at The Genesis, just since February. Being another tough course this week, though with a weaker field, should see him finish even higher up on the leaderboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>English is an excellent putter, ranking 8th in SG Putting this season, and his short game is strong having gained strokes Around the Greens in nine of this last 11 starts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also ranks 19th in Total Driving this season as he\u2019s very accurate (19th in fairway %) which will come in handy around Colonial, plus he carries better than average pop as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, though the course did experience renovations, his knowledge around the venue is good with eight previous starts here, four of them finishing inside the Top-20 including two Top-5s. However, his most impressive finish came just last week with a T4 at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Detry is a phenomenal putter ranking 10th this season in SG Putting which leads to ranking 6th in Birdie Average per round. Though, this is a different course than the players faced last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Well, technically, it\u2019s the same club, as Colonial is the only venue to host this tournament in its 78 years, but it underwent some major renovations with every hole on the course being touched in some way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Par remains the same as the course plays to a stock par-70 with just two par 5s, though the overall yardage has increased by about 80 yards to nearly 7,300 in total. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Two of the par 3s have entirely new green locations and all 18 holes feature new bentgrass greens. Past winners include Justin Rose, Kevin Kisner, Chris Kirk and Zach Johnson and if their skillsets tell us anything, it\u2019s that you don\u2019t have to be a long hitter to win here, though it always helps, if you can keep it straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Each of the last two winners, Grillo last year and Sam Burns in 2022, both failed to reach 10-under par, and last year\u2019s edition barely saw the winds kick into gear which will not be the case this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>They are expected to be standard Texas winds, meaning steady 10-20mph with likely higher gusts. The good news is rain is only in the forecast for the opener with the field set to dodge thunderstorms on Thursday, before temperatures climb into the low-90s for the remaining three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the field is understandably much weaker than we saw at last week\u2019s major, but world #1 Scottie Scheffler, fresh of his arrest at the PGA (!) headlines the field along with fellow Texan, Jordan Spieth. Collin Morikawa and Max Homa are the other Top-10 players in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charles Schwab Challenge Outright Winners: Harris English +3500 (DraftKings or FanDuel)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/wt.buzz\/nb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nick Borrman<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>English has quietly been playing consistently over the last ten months with just one missed cut dating back to last year\u2019s Open Championship. That run of 17 tournaments saw him finish T22 or better more than 50% of the time, nine of 17 starts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>His run includes excellent results on tough tracks with deep fields: a T18 at the PGA Championship, a T22 at the Masters, a T19 at THE PLAYERS, a T21 at the Arnold Palmer, and 7th at The Genesis, just since February. Being another tough course this week, though with a weaker field, should see him finish even higher up on the leaderboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>English is an excellent putter, ranking 8th in SG Putting this season, and his short game is strong having gained strokes Around the Greens in nine of this last 11 starts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>He also ranks 19th in Total Driving this season as he\u2019s very accurate (19th in fairway %) which will come in handy around Colonial, plus he carries better than average pop as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, though the course did experience renovations, his knowledge around the venue is good with eight previous starts here, four of them finishing inside the Top-20 including two Top-5s. I think we see him in the mix on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charles Schwab Challenge Top-20 Finish: Thomas Detry +240 (DraftKings or FanDuel)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Detry is getting more comfortable in his 2nd full season as a PGA Tour member which features a couple of recent strong finishes including a T17 at the Valspar and a T2 at the Houston Open, along with a T8 at the Zurich Classic partners event. However, his most impressive finish came just last week with a T4 at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Detry is a phenomenal putter ranking 10th this season in SG Putting which leads to ranking 6th in Birdie Average per round.
