The Brooklyn\/LA Dodgers have recorded the most Cy Young Awards all time with 12, followed by the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee\/Atlanta Braves with seven each. Roger Clemens has won the most Cy Young awards with seven followed by Randy Johnson with five. The reigning AL Cy Young award winner, Gerrit Cole, is likely to begin the 2024 MLB season on the IL as he battles an elbow injury suffered in Spring Training. Prior to that injury, Cole was the +500 favorite in the AL after posting a 15-4 record with a 2.63 ERA and 222 strikeouts through 209 innings of work, despite the Yankees’ struggles last year. He also had the best WHIP in the majors (0.98) and the best WAR at 7.4 (next best was Blake Snell at 6.0).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corbin Burnes looks like an intriguing option with a new team after a down season where he went just 10-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 200 strikeouts across 193.2 innings of work. The 29-year-old is two seasons removed from winning the NL Cy Young and he’s moving to Camden Yards, which EV Analytics lists as the fifth-most pitcher-friendly park. Burnes will have a great shot at standing out on an Orioles staff that will be missing Kyle Bradish (sprained UCL) and John Means (setback from Tommy John surgery).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can look to the same Orioles’ team for a dark horse candidate in Grayson Rodriguez, looking to make a big jump in his sophomore season. Rodriguez struggled last spring in his initial call-up from the minor leagues, but he was fantastic down the stretch. He showed flashes of brilliance with an eight-inning shutout with seven strikeouts against the Tampa Bay Rays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With question marks swirling around most other teams in the AL East, the Orioles figure to win a lot of games this season. Burnes and Rodriguez play in a pitcher-friendly park, and both have the potential to be in the AL Cy Young discussion as the season progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
