It looks like Bowling Green (BG) is finally turning the corner with their program.\u00a0 Maybe their patience is paying off, as the Falcons won five of six down the stretch, losing only by a single point to Toledo.\u00a0 As for Minnesota, their program took a step or two down in 2023.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, they were the last team \u201cearning\u201d a bowl bid, qualifying at 5-7.\u00a0 Normally a Big Ten vs. MAC matchup would see one-sided odds.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see if conference affiliation matters after a study of the matchup analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quick Lane Bowl Predictions and Best Bets: Bowling Green Overview <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

BG went bowling last year with a 24-33 point ratio, a 3.1-4.2 rush ratio, a 65% pass defense, and a 37-36 sack ratio.\u00a0 There was improvement everywhere<\/em><\/strong> in 2023.\u00a0 The point ratio was 26-23.5.\u00a0 The rush ratio was 4.2-3.9.\u00a0 The pass defense allowed 60%.\u00a0 The sack ratio was 38-25.\u00a0 QB play was decent, with transfer Connor Bazelak hitting 61.2%, but with a modest 11-7 touchdown to interception ratio.\u00a0 I chart him at 19-30 in this spot.\u00a0 RB Stewart ran for 6.1 per carry, but did not play in the final three games.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s almost nothing behind him, and this alters what might happen in the game<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 As of 12\/20, he was called a \u201cgametime decision\u201d.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Past Minnesota teams would have had a field day (300 rush yards) vs. past BG teams.\u00a0 See below for my projections, but this is an area the Falcons have cleaned up.\u00a0 The Gophers will have a raw QB for this game, and BG should contain him most of the time, although there are two legitimate pass catching targets to worry about.\u00a0 They will be down one starting CB.\u00a0 Kicking was 12-17.\u00a0 There are two areas the Falcons will need to shore up.\u00a0 1st<\/sup>, the team is penalty prone.\u00a0 2nd<\/sup>, the 3rd<\/sup> down conversion rate offensively is certainly below par.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
