controversial split decision loss denied him that chance against, at the time, current undisputed junior-welterweight champion Josh Taylor early last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a highly anticipated rematch failed to materialize between the two, with Taylor going on to face Teofimo Lopez instead, Catterall has been left on the shelf somewhat over the last 18 months, fighting just once, a fact he won\u2019t want to see repeated moving forward in his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Facing him on Saturday night over in Liverpool will be ring legend and former multi-divisional champion Jorge \u2018El Nino de Oro\u2019 Linares, who arguably comes into this one well past his best, but one who nonetheless is always a dangerous proposition in the ring given his high-level technical ability in fights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catterall goes into this one as a prohibitive -1000 consensus favorite at most books, with Linares coming back at a +500 for Saturday\u2019s bout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 on Golden Contract shows, Jack Catterall\u2019s career went into overdrive early last year when the WBO ordered then undisputed 140lb champion Josh Taylor to face Catterall in a mandatory defense of his titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people simply assumed that would be pretty much a slam dunk for Taylor, given his undisputed status in the division and his resume fighting world-class opposition, while Catterall had faced relatively no one up to that point of his career, especially no one near the quality of a Josh Taylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Catterall more than rose to the occasion in that fight, arguably beating the Scotsman on his home turf only to be denied the decision in what ended up being a very contentious fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then it\u2019s been pretty much a waiting game for Catterall, with numerous delays and cancellations to a proposed rematch between the pair, and Taylor since losing his status in the division to Teofimo Lopez earlier this year also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, the rematch against Josh Taylor is still high on Catterall\u2019s to-do list, and one he hopes he can right a wrong in soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Linares Hopes For One Last Run<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After an arguably hall-of-fame level career, winning world titles in three different weight classes, Jorge Linares will look to instigate one last run up at junior welterweight before the sun finally sets on what\u2019s already been a legendary career for the Venezuelan fighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Linares, that sun seems to be extremely low in the sky however, with three straight losses over his last three fights, although in one of those he did show why he\u2019s still incredibly dangerous in the ring, seriously wobbling the undisputed lightweight king Devin Haney with a flurry of punches near the end of that fight, with Haney almost needing help to get back to his corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jorge Linares has promised a return to form this Saturday night against Catterall, and he has tended to show up in England previously, dominating both Kevin Mitchell and Anthony Crolla here, albeit a number of years ago now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jack Catterall vs Jorge Linares Expert Prediction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime vs. prime, there aren&#8217;t many fighters we&#8217;d pick to beat Jorge Linares over the last two decades or so, especially given his blistering combinations in fights along with his pinpoint accuracy as well, but those glory days look like a distant memory for this current version of Linares, with a late stoppage loss against Zaur Abdullaev last year potentially being a precursor of things to come for him this Saturday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Linares looked completely overwhelmed at the end of that Abdullaev fight, bravely getting up off the mat twice to fight on with the referee eventually having no choice but to wave it off as Abdullaev continued to load up with hard combinations, something that Catterall is more than capable of this weekend also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catterall isn\u2019t a known power puncher in fights, but he\u2019s extremely quick-handed and could well overwhelm Linares late in this one, especially over in the UK where referees are usually quicker to call fights if one fighter looks to be in serious
