Nick Borrman<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\nAlthough not technically in Rome, the Club sits just 10 miles outside the ancient city and is a relative newcomer to the professional scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
It was built in 1989 and was redesigned beginning in 2018 and finishing in 2020 after it had been awarded the Ryder Cup. The redesign was led by European Golf Design along with Tom Fazio II and was created with match play in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
The course is a par-71 and measures just short of 7,200 yards and presents several risk-reward holes as there are three drivable par-4s along with three par 5s, all reachable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Four of those come into play in the final eight holes which will certainly provide fireworks in the latter stages of matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Team Europe has the local knowledge advantage as players have a total of 11 starts at the Italian Open, which features on the DP World Tour, including two past winners in Robert McIntyre (2022) and Nicolai Hojgaard (2021). No one from Team USA has played in competition here though the guys will have a full three days of preparation this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
The course features a total of 115 feet of elevation change from its highest point to lowest point so there will certainly be some tired legs this week and is a big reason why I don\u2019t think either captain will start anyone in all five sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Ryder Cup Winner Prediction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Team Europe +100 (DraftKings)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\nIt\u2019s hard to want to bet against team USA considering how much they dominated two years ago in Wisconsin winning by a record-setting 10 points but considering they have not won the Ryder Cup in Europe since 1993, which was also the last time the successfully defended, so there is a lot of history against them this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
I would also argue Team Europe is peaking at the right time. Viktor Hovland is coming in off the back of his FedexCup win, Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton are both playing great, Rory is Rory, and heck, even Ludvig Aberg is hot with three straight Top-10s including a win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
For team USA, the last player with a win is Brian Harman at the Open Championship, though match play and playing in teams is a much different animal than winning a four-day tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Finally, captain Luke Donald also made a strategic change this year scheduling foursomes first on opening day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Traditionally four-ball is the first session in the morning, but Team Europe believe they are the better foursomes team and are simply looking to get off to a fast start. That move could be just what is needed to build some confidence and eventually win the Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Ryder Cup Top Points Scorer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Xander Schauffele +1200 (FanDuel)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is sort of a \u2018hedge\u2019 against Team Europe to Win the Ryder Cup, but both could still cash. Xander is all but certain to be paired with Cantlay this week and with their past records, they should be in line to earn some points. The duo paired together and both the 2019 and 2022 President\u2019s Cup as well as the 2021 Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
They have a perfect 5-0-0 foursomes record combined in both President\u2019s Cup and Ryder Cup and could very well be the first match out on Friday morning as Team USA will look to get out to a fast start in a response to the obvious format change by Team Europe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
They duo has also won the Zurich Classic together in the only TOUR event with partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Both players are level-headed and complement one another very well. Both players are great with irons, but Cantlay has better Off the Tee numbers while Schauffele is the better putter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Cantlay ranks 3rd in this field of 24 in SG Off the Tee over the last 12 months while Schauffele ranks 2nd in SG Putting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
