UMass Football Preview 2023: <\/strong>UMass Picks for Betting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

UMass football is 21-103 the past eleven seasons<\/strong>, and 3-39 lately<\/strong>, with wins over then 0-12 Akron, 1-11 UConn, and last year, mighty Stony Brook. This seems like fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMass Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Everything related to offense. Their QB\u2019s combined to hit 49%, throwing four TD\u2019s while giving up 14 interceptions. 9-11 lined games had them score a maximum of 13 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think UMass football<\/strong> OL looks better<\/strong>, but I\u2019ll chart everything else. It may surprise some, but the defense did improve. The 2021 numberss were as follows: 485 yards allowed and 43 points allowed per game, 5.8 per carry run D, 64.5% pass D, and 11 defensive sacks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2022 numbers were 370 yards allowed and 31 points allowed per game, 5.0 per carry run D, 53.8% pass D and 18 defensive sacks. Let\u2019s see what year #2 for Don Brown brings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMass 2023 Predictions, UMass Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

UMass has lost 24 straight road games. Maybe they play Eastern Michigan or Army close, but right now I\u2019ll assume they won\u2019t be road competitive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s \u201ceasier\u201d to face Miami Ohio in September, as they typically start really slow. They return plenty of starters however. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I \u201cexpect\u201d this team to win at least once in games hosting lowly New Mexico and Arkansas State<\/strong>. I\u2019ll pre-check QB play and the entire offense, knowing that based on last year\u2019s Power numbers, UMass could still be a sizable dog in both. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other winnable game is vs. 8-3 Merrimack. Why does it feel that UMass could lose this type of game?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMass Football Bottom Line: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My 2-10 assessment last year was a game too high. There\u2019s not been an infusion of offensive talent, but there\u2019s enough experience to have some hope that 2022 was rock bottom, and this year they improve. I\u2019m still at a 3-9 ceiling<\/strong>, and unless I see stat sheet progress, 2-10 is firmly in play<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMass Football HANDICAPPING TIP<\/strong>: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The only game I would consider them at this time would be at Eastern Michigan, if the offense can show any signs of life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMass football was a double-digit dog ten times last year<\/strong>. I typically have no action on their games, which is fine with me (if anything, I\u2019ll look vs. if I see a line that\u2019s off of my number).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
