UConn did not play in 2020. They finished the Randy Edsall \u201cerror\u201d 7-41, and beat only lowly UMass and three even lower-level teams since the middle of \u201917. Jim Mora outperformed all expectations with six wins<\/strong>. The next step is to achieve win consistency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UConn Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

UConn\u2019s pass defense percentage. It was high last year, understandable as you can\u2019t fix everything right away. With an easier schedule, I have the number at 61.5%. QB results could improve<\/strong> as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their mobile starter hit 57.8%, but with just a 9-10 ratio. The OL returns four starters<\/strong> and the DL is intact. Players who garnered 24 of their 26 defensive sacks return. There\u2019s lots of positives to build on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UConn 2023 Predictions, UConn Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I show the \u201923 schedule as decently easier. North Carolina State was out of their class a year ago, winning 41-10. This is the 1st game, and it\u2019s also at home, so let\u2019s see how far the program has come. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For whatever reason, host Georgia State has an early week off before hosting the Huskies. This may not be a guaranteed win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Games 4-5 are home to Duke (no Duke schedule issues) and Utah State (good staff, stat sheet not as good). The goal is to split these games and go 2-0 hosting FIU and at Rice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I expect 4-3 (or more?) prior to the game at Boston College. Pre-checks to this point will include QB play. Boston College seeks revenge<\/strong> for losing here a year ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have no opinion on the game at James Madison, but as long as UConn is at least 4-6 after that game they can still reach six wins<\/strong>, with home games left vs. Sacred Heart and UMass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UConn Football Bottom Line: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

6-6, but maybe not as easy a 6-6 as people think for UConn football? 5-7 should absolutely be the floor<\/strong>, but I want to see better QB play and more than just \u201cgetting by\u201d defensively before I go much higher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amazingly, UConn was 11.5 Power Rating points LOWER than 6-6 Army at season\u2019s end. I just need to see additional growth early on, which is certainly possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UConn Football HANDICAPPING TIP<\/strong>: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Last year I was worried about the 2nd of back-to-back road games for this young team. They did lose both times in that role, but covered the spread. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had no action last year (typical), but did fade them in the bowl loss. With solid returning depth<\/strong>, I may back them in one or more of their 1st two games<\/strong>, but I have no other opinions at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
