For Todd Monken, 6-6 was a letdown.  Wins were vs. Villanova, Colgate, ULM, UConn, UMass and in double overtime, a poor Navy team.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The six losses were all vs. 2022 bowl teams.  Amazingly, Army\u2019s Power number was better than anticipated.  With a world record (for them) 17 returning starters, 2023 brings hope for a return to bowl status.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Army Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a shocking move, Army is making a coordinator change, one apparently designed to add the forward pass to their arsenal.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the most obvious watch area, including accuracy, turnover increase, and how that impacts the defense (more time on the field).  I do think their leading WR of a year ago (10 catches, typical here) could be special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Army 2023 Predictions, Army Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LSU has been added to the schedule.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 1st<\/sup> test case for the new offense is at ULM, a team Army RAN ON last year (441 rushing yards).  Army lost to a good UTSA team in overtime last year.  The rematch at their place will not be easy.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The home schedule interests me.  Army is 33-5 at home the past six seasons (17-19 vs. the spread).  They host BC (Army rested), host Troy (great defensive test, painful 10-9 loss a year ago), host 12-1 Holy Cross and host the new staff of Coastal Carolinac(lost at their place a year ago, their solid QB returns).  Will Army fully invest in changing the offense?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can the defense improve on some rather mediocre 2022 numbers with solid returning depth?  These are questions I will be answering during the season.  The game vs. Air Force is in Denver.  That\u2019s interesting.  Navy is very similar to Army entering 2023.  They will likely throw more often, and have an unusually large number of returning starters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Army Football Bottom Line: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

6-6, but some concern if the move to add more passing backfires.<\/strong>  Be prepared to pivot as the season goes along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Army Football HANDICAPPING TIP<\/strong>: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve not used rush data for twenty years here due to their usually unbalanced schedule, which often included 2-3 lower Divisional teams.  With Army dropping to tier two status (no team sheet), I will not chart weekly data, but will be aware of my seasonal projections, and watch areas as I record game results and change Power numbers as needed.  Other than using early clues, my leans are fading them hosting Holy Cross, but maybe backing them hosting Coastal Carolina the next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
