Miami Hurricanes Football Preview 2023: Miami Picks for Betting<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When does mediocrity end at Miami?  Every year they hire the top coaches, and every year recruiting is sky high.  Now with the transfer portal, Miami is winning in that area as well.  What\u2019s new for 2023?  How about seven new coaches, including both coordinators.  Here we go again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami Hurricanes Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The staff Mario Cristobal put together in 2022 was a strong one.\u00a0 Both coordinators are gone (OC fired), their QB coach left, and four other assistants are new.\u00a0 As of this writing, Shannon Dawson is the offensive coordinator and QB coach.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He inherits QB Tyler Van Dyke, who regressed last year before being injured.\u00a0 The new scheme might be better suited to his strengths, but turnovers can be troublesome.\u00a0 With the kind of talent Miami \u201crecruits\u201d, one would think the run game would be well above average.\u00a0 Instead, my adjusted for sacks figure shows a consistent 4.1 per carry over the past several seasons, and that is inexcusable.\u00a0 Several new starters will grace the OL.\u00a0 How fast that area comes together is a must watch (I project 4.4).\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defensively, Lance Guidry is a splash hire as coordinator, but Kevin Steele (now at Alabama) was the same last year, and the defensive numbers were basically average.\u00a0 In examining the roster, this team is likely to put pressure on opposing QB\u2019s, and although my stat projections are mostly flat, the floor for this talented defense should be high.\u00a0 The kicking game is in good hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami Hurricanes 2023 Predictions, Canes Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If Miami holds serve hosting GT on 10\/7, then despite all the coaching and personnel changes, 4-1 or 5-0 is in play. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one tossup game is at home vs. A&M, a team they lost to 17-9 in 2022.  My watch points after game #5 are QB turnovers, OL play, and any anomalies with their run or pass defensive numbers.  Miami lost a close game hosting rival UNC in 2022.   Three of the last four games have been decided by exactly three points, but Miami lost them all.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up next is Clemson.  Miami has a habit of becoming streaky in a bad way after losses.  What\u2019s Clemson\u2019s story to this point in 2023?  The November schedule starts out with road trips to NC State and FSU.  NC State will have just hosted Clemson and could be in letdown mode.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversely, will Miami be in letdown mode at FSU if they lose to the Wolfpack?  The season closes with winnable games vs. Louisville and at Boston College.  Miami hasn\u2019t always played its best football late in the season.  That needs to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami Hurricanes Football Bottom Line: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once again the talent level (and coaching) gives Miami fans great hope, but will this be another season of failed expectations?\u00a0 The keys that rise above all others are QB VanDyke, the OL, and new DC Guidry.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m cautiously optimistic that Miami can thrive, but for me, two games define how the season might play out.\u00a0 First, a win early vs. A&M would create enormous buy in with the early schedule.\u00a0 Second, the game at NC State might determine their November fate.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Win that, and 8-4 is easily attainable.\u00a0 Lose that game, and the usual team and fan apathy could set in.\u00a0 Mark your calendar.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miami Hurricanes Football HANDICAPPING TIP<\/strong>: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll be heavily reliant on my keys early, and likely use the result of the game at NC State to dictate late season strategy.\u00a0 Matchup and stat evaluation will play a part, but I\u2019ll be bearish on Miami if they lose that NC State game, and possibly bullish if they win that game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
