Kyle Whittingham is the premier coach in the Pac 12. It\u2019s three years in a row (not counting Covid-\u201920) where they\u2019ve won 10 or more games. Do we just pencil in another 10 for Utah Football in 2023?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utah Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

QB Rising is a winner but he tore his ACL in the Rose Bowl<\/strong> and I\u2019ve seen conflicting reports as to his recovery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He’s been a limited participant in practice but his Week 1 status is still up in the air<\/strong> as of now<\/strong>. While depth is a bit down at WR\/TE and RB, the OL looks even better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utah loses three of their top four tacklers<\/strong> and a couple of their pass rushers but the only player they may truly miss is highly instinctive DB Clark Phillips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a new PK, but the two who left were average. Coaching stability exists with this team. That\u2019s an advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utah Football <\/strong>2023 Predictions, Utah Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Utah opens with revenge vs. Florida<\/strong>. I think they get it, but the Gator run attack will be a massive challenge to defend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\u2019ll have nine days before going to face Baylor. This game is hardly a sure win. Utah has handled Weber St, but I\u2019ll vet this 10-3 team carefully, as I do not expect perfect focus<\/strong>, with UCLA and at Oregon State next up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Games 7-8 are at USC and home to Oregon. I personally believe these teams have more overall talent, but Whittingham is the equalizer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late road games are at Washington and the next week, at Arizona. Based on the sequence I expect Utah\u2019s point defense to be vulnerable vs. the Wildcats, but the hope is that the offense will still be deciding factor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utah Football Bottom Line: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

5-1 to the game at USC, but ONLY if Rising is healthy<\/strong>, and that\u2019s the likely ceiling. That gives me \u201cjust\u201d 9-3<\/strong>, with a loss at USC and a split hosting Oregon and at Wash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is this another year that the top teams in the Pac 12 knock each other out of the playoffs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utah Football HANDICAPPING TIP<\/strong>: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Utah is 53-24 vs. the spread as a road dog<\/strong>. They are 25-12 ATS off rest<\/strong>. They are 27-9 ATS when picked via my rush stat formula. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I lean Utah when hosting Florida if a fair line, but at Baylor and perhaps hosting Weber State (I\u2019ll do further study on that team). I lean Utah at Oregon State as a dog<\/strong>, and prefer the dog in the Oregon game<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
