Soph QB Weigman and Max Johnson are battling it out. One or both can build on \u201822\u2019s modest numbers. <strong>Reuben Owens is the nation\u2019s #1 RB recruit<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Texas A&amp;M replaces a 5.6 per carry RB, so charting how quickly Owens can make an impact is important. There are no projected senior starters on the offense (hence the 2024 comment, above), and <strong>the OL is especially young<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The line has an average weight of 325 LBS, so I expect potential growth as the season rolls along. If given time, the WR group is solid. Defensively, six of their top seven tacklers return, and the DL is especially deep. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel defensive coordinator Durkin is only slightly above average, if that, but I project 4.4 allowed per carry, down from 5.0 achieved in \u201922, even with Tennessee added to the schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>secondary lost a pair of day three NFL draftees<\/strong> but A&amp;M has always recruited well and the talent level should not slip. In addition to RB Owens, other keys are QB pass %, and defensive sacks, which plummeted from 39 to just 19 a year ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a must watch for anyone reading this. Texas A&amp;M typically <strong>devotes plenty of attention to special team play<\/strong> and should be just fine in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Texas A&amp;M Football<strong> <\/strong>2023 Predictions, Texas A&amp;M Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year I asked (in this spot) where\u2019s the soft spot in the schedule. This year <strong>they \u2018should\u201d start 3-1 as the floor<\/strong>, with the tougher games at Miami FL (17-6 win at home in \u201922, Miami as usual has a strong roster) and home to Auburn (13-10 loss last year, but this is at home vs. a new staff). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Texas A&amp;M has a good track record in the neutral matchup vs. Arkansas, but this year I think the Hogs will be a stiff test. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Up next are games vs. Alabama (plays them tight) and at Tennessee, so it\u2019s possible the season could start to unravel if Texas A&amp;M\u2019s seasonal keys are not being met. A <strong>rested Texas A&amp;M lost at South Carolina a year ago<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They have another bye before hosting the Gamecocks this year. In the past, Fisher\u2019s teams have played well off rest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The November games on the road are challenging. <strong>Ole Miss has no scheduling issues and will test Texas A&amp;M\u2019s defense<\/strong>. I\u2019ll pre-check Texas A&amp;M\u2019s pass rush. Can supporters (and the media) be patient if the Aggies show only modest improvement in \u201923? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there are no portal defections, I truly believe this is a top 12 team in the 1st year of the new playoff format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for this year, the early record may only be around 4-3, <strong>making this a 7-5 or perhaps an 8-4 conclusion<\/strong>.
