Timing is everything.  42-8 prior to last season, Cincy got noticed, and obtained an invitation to the Big 12.  Luke Fickell had already been noticed, and after another nine wins, he left to go to Wisconsin.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players and coaches followed him, making Scott Satterfield\u2019s 1st<\/sup> season here a bit more challenging.  Let\u2019s see what\u2019s in store for the Bearcats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Bearcats Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brad Glenn is stepping up in class as the new offensive coordinator.\u00a0 His new QB, Emory Jones is on his 3rd<\/sup> school in as many seasons.\u00a0 He fits Satterfield\u2019s scheme but has not produced many wins in his career.\u00a0 With many defections, much of this offense will look different.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of 6\/24, the depth chart lists seven transfers on the 1st<\/sup> string offense, including two or three along the OL.  There are four such transfers for the back seven of the defense.  As a whole, Cincy has just seven returning starters, and a new PK.  Cincy has put up impressive defensive #\u2019s for several years running.  Louisville\u2019s defense improved a lot in \u201922, so I\u2019ll chart how fast this unit comes together.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One area to watch is the secondary, as that unit has lost six starters over the past two seasons.  After a pair of 54% performances, I\u2019m projecting 59.5% for \u201923.  After years of near dead-last kicking, Cincy found a solid transfer last year.  He\u2019s transferred again, so there\u2019s a new PK (11-14 at ASU) for \u201923.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Bearcats <\/strong>2023 Predictions, Cincinnati Bearcats Schedule:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cincy has a tough game at Pitt, but otherwise should be 2-1 heading into Big Ten play, where they will host Oklahoma.  I see this, right or wrong, as an important transition for the team (and fans).  A blowout loss could spell more trouble.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great effort and perhaps an upset win could have the opposite effect.\u00a0 The next game is on a Friday, at BYU.\u00a0 With one less day to rebound, this could be problematic. Home games vs. Iowa St and Baylor are next.\u00a0 Using 2022 ending Power numbers, Cincy would be competitive with either team.\u00a0 With a new staff and a massively different starting roster, that may not be the case.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oklahoma State is not necessarily a complete team, but going to their place won\u2019t be easy.\u00a0 The goal is 4-4 to this point, but even at 3-5 there could be hope.\u00a0 Closing games are home to rival UCF, at rival Houston, at West Virginia, and home to Kansas, where they will have a solid situational advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Bearcats Football Bottom Line: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

How different is this team from a year ago?  It starts with the coaching staff, but Cincy also replaces its leading QB and RB, plus their top eight pass catchers.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not quite as bad defensively, except that LB Pace is off to the NFL, bringing with him eye-popping #\u2019s that were best by far for this defense.  This could be ugly, but the schedule pacing is pretty good.  The offense could surprise if QB Jones further develops, while the defense could take a step back, with the question being how much of a step back will be taken.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m willing to say 5-7 or maybe even 6-6, but with so many changes, this assessment is written in light pencil.  My September work will hopefully point me in the right direction.  My advice: Study everything for games 1-6 before their bye week.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cincinnati Bearcats Football HANDICAPPING TIP<\/strong>: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cincy was never a rush vs. pick in 2022, but when the data was flat, and not in their favor, Cincy went 0-3 ATS<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is noteworthy because it often leads to good play against situations the following year, especially with a new coach.\u00a0 Right now, without data analysis, I\u2019m leaning vs. at BYU and for in the finale hosting Kansas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
