Kentucky Derby Horses 2023: Forte’s Racing Profile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Forte is owned by Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable<\/a>, two prominent names in the racing industry. He is trained by Todd Pletcher, a Hall of Fame trainer who has won two Kentucky Derbies with Super Saver (2010) and Always Dreaming (2017). He is ridden by TBA, who will be announced closer to the race day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Forte is a dark bay son of Violence, a Grade 1-winning sprinter who was injured before he could run in the Kentucky Derby. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His dam is Queen Caroline, a daughter of Blame, who famously defeated Zenyatta in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic. Forte was bred in Kentucky by South Gate Farm and sold for $350,000 as a yearling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forte made his debut on May 27, 2022 at Belmont Park, where he won a five-furlong maiden race by 2 1\/4 lengths. He then stepped up to graded stakes company in his second start, finishing fourth in the Sanford Stakes (G3) at Saratoga after breaking slowly and encountering some bumping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He bounced back with a vengeance in his next start, winning the Hopeful Stakes (G1) at Saratoga by 5 1\/2 lengths in a dazzling display of speed and power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He followed that up with another impressive victory in the Breeders’ Futurity Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, where he drew off to win by 4 3\/4 lengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He then stamped himself as the champion juvenile male of 2022 with a dominant performance in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Del Mar, where he cruised to a 3 1\/4-length win over a strong field that included future Grade 1 winners Mage and Mandarin Hero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a brief freshening, Forte returned to action in 2023 with two more Grade 1 wins in Florida. He easily captured the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park by 6 lengths, despite being bumped at the start and racing wide throughout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He then confirmed himself as the Kentucky Derby favorite with a hard-fought victory in the Florida Derby (G1), where he overcame a slow pace and a stubborn Mage to prevail by a length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
