New Orleans Pelicans vs Orlando Magic Betting Preview<\/h2>\n

WagerTalk handicapper and renowned Daily Fantasy expert Ben Burns<\/a> provides his predictions and a player prop from tonight\u2019s showdown between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Orlando Magic.<\/p>\n

This game features a pair of teams fighting to stay relevant. Both could really use a victory. I delivered a 6-0 sweep with my Sunday basketball picks and I’ve provided an interesting free player prop below.<\/p>\n

Coming off a 22-60 season, Orlando was supposed to be at least another year away from competing and out of playoff contention from opening day.<\/p>\n

Someone forgot to tell the players though. At 25-36, the Magic have already exceeded last year’s win total. Sitting in 13th, they’re currently 3.5 games back of the final play-in spot.<\/p>\n

The Pelicans have a 30-31 record, good for 10th in the competitive Western Conference. Three straight losses has them heading in the wrong direction.<\/p>\n

Knowing that their next three games are on the road and that they won’t face an opponent like this anytime soon, the Pelicans know this is essentially a “must win” for them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

New Orleans Pelicans vs Orlando Magic\u00a0Betting Analysis<\/h2>\n

Both teams are better at home. The Magic are 15-16 at Orlando but 10-20 on the road. The disparity is even bigger for New Orleans. The Pelicans are 10-21 in their “away” games but an impressive 20-10, here at home.<\/p>\n

Given those home\/away records, it’s not surprising that the Magic won this season’s first meeting, at Orlando.<\/p>\n

The Magic got 30 points out of Franz Wagner in that “back and forth” 123-110 January victory. The game saw six lead changes.<\/p>\n

New Orleans got solid contributions from McCollum and Valancianus. Those players had 23 and 20 points, respectively.<\/p>\n

Four other Pelicans scored in double-figures. Brandon Ingram wasn’t among them though, as he was out with injury.<\/p>\n

New Orleans Pelicans vs Orlando Magic: Against The Spread<\/h3>\n

Arguably over-achieving on the season, the Magic have surprised some bettors. That’s led to a relatively solid 33-27-1 (55%) record against the spread record.<\/p>\n

From a betting perspective, the Pelicans haven’t fared as well. They’re a money-burning 28-32-1 against the number. That’s mostly thanks to their dismal road record. They’re 16-13-1 ATS here at home.<\/p>\n

New Orleans Pelicans vs Orlando Magic: Over\/Under<\/h3>\n

The total for this game is currently sitting at 227. That’s right around where these teams typically land. New Orleans games average 228.5 points. Orlando games average 224.5.<\/p>\n

The O\/U line for last month’s meeting at Orlando was 229.5 and the teams combined for 233. However, it should be mentioned that the Magic tend to play lower-scoring games on the road while the Pelicans play lower-scoring games here at New Orleans.<\/p>\n

The ‘under’ is 17-12-1 in Orlando road games and 16-14 in New Orleans home games.<\/p>\n

With Franz Wagner having scored 30 in the first meeting, I first had a look at his total points. He’s currently listed at 16.5 (over -130) at Draft Kings. The Pelicans can be stingy here though and they’re going to be determined to improve how they defend Wagner.<\/p>\n

As mentioned, Brandon Ingram didn’t play in the first game. He’s back now though and leading the team. The Pelicans need him to have a big game. He’s currently projected to get 25.5 points.<\/p>\n

Ingram had a sub-par scoring game (19 points) last game but had scored 36, 25 and 34 in his previous three games. In his only game against Orlando last season, he scored 31. I say he gets more than 25.<\/p>\n
