New York Islanders vs Winnipeg Jets Betting Analysis<\/h2>\n

After opening up their current four-game road trip with two straight losses, the Winnipeg Jets bounced back with a win in their third game last time out with a comprehensive 4-1 win over the New York Rangers.<\/p>\n

Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele combined for three goals and two assists in that game but faced a Rangers team extremely wasteful in attack, registering just one goal from a mammoth 51 shots in what was another standout night for Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck in nets.<\/p>\n

The New York Islanders meanwhile bounced back with a win of their own on Monday night, overcoming the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 on the road, with an impressive third period where the Islanders came from behind to rack up three goals and take the win.<\/p>\n

This will be the first of two meetings between the two sides this year, but the Islanders have won all of their previous five head-to-head meetings against the Jets.<\/p>\n

Big Separation In Results And Data For Winnipeg<\/h3>\n

The Winnipeg Jets rank as the third-best defensive team in the league this season, allowing just 2.60 goals per game against opponents on average, with a large part of that success being the form of a stellar Connor Hellebuyck in nets.<\/p>\n

However, data-wise at least, Winnipeg have been far from ideal in defense this season, ranking 13th on high-danger shots allowed at the back and 21st in defensive xGA this year also.<\/p>\n

Shots Allowed A Huge Concern For Islanders<\/h3>\n

Despite their 4-2 come-from-behind victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, the New York Islanders still allowed a massive 46 shots against the Penguins in that game, and that\u2019s been a huge issue for this Islanders team all season.<\/p>\n

The New York Islanders rank 31st in the league on total scoring chances allowed this season, with only the Anaheim Ducks having a worse overall record, but have managed to survive for the most part based on a top-five opponent shot conversion percentage this year. How long that will continue however is debatable.<\/p>\n

New York Islanders vs Winnipeg Jets Expert Prediction<\/h2>\n

Both teams have shown a good aptitude for defense this season on the surface, so we can see why this line opened as low as it did at 5.5 here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

However, the data suggests a lot of those defensive numbers for both teams are at least a little suspect this season, with both relying on standout seasons so far from both Connor Hellebuyck and Ilya Sorokin in nets, two of the top four goalies in the league this season based on GSAA average.<\/p>\n

However, should that form dip for either man here, and both goalies have had off nights previously, combining for nine really bad starts this season (those starts where they posted under an .850 SV%), given how many shots each team are allowing this year, we could well see this one go over the total on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Take the Over 5.5 goals on Wednesday in the matchup between the Winnipeg Jets and the New York Islanders.<\/p>\n
