With Virginia playing on Wednesday, Miami can (briefly) grab the top seed in the ACC tonight and put the pressure on the Cavaliers to keep pace at the top of the conference standings.<\/p>\n Virginia Tech has opened as a two-point home favorite over the visitors from Coral Gables, with the total sitting at 153.5 points.<\/p>\n The Hurricanes kicked off their current six-game win streak with a victory over Virginia Tech on January 31.<\/p>\n Norchad Omier led a balanced Hurricane attack with 21 points, followed by Isiah Wong’s 18 and 17 points from Nijel Pack. Both teams shot very well from the floor and free throw line in that 92-83 shootout in south Florida.<\/p>\n Virginia Tech made an improbable run through the ACC Tournament last season to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament, and the Hokies might have to do the same thing this year.<\/p>\n Two losses to Boston College (No. 198 in KenPom) and a loss to Georgia Tech (No. 202 in KenPom) have sent the Hokies’ postseason stock into a tailspin.<\/p>\n Head coach Mike Young hasn’t been able to achieve consistency with this year’s squad. With wins over Penn State, Oklahoma State, Pitt, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia, Virginia Tech has shown that it is capable of hanging with almost any team in the country.<\/p>\n Those performances have been very spotty over the course of the season. Virginia Tech has alternated between wins and losses across each of its last seven games.<\/p>\n Wright State transfer Grant Basile has enjoyed an increased role in the Hokies’ offense of late. The 6-9 forward has scored 20+ in six of his last eight games, including back-to-back 33-point performances against Notre Dame and Boston College.<\/p>\n Jim Larranaga led the Hurricanes to the Elite Eight last season, but this year’s version looks even better. Miami’s offense leads the ACC in efficiency, effective field goal shooting and three-point shooting.<\/p>\n On any given night, Wong, Pack or Omier are capable of taking over a contest. Pack has had the hot hand recently, scoring 20+ in four of his last five games including 24 in the Hurricanes’ most recent win over Wake Forest.<\/p>\n Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg should be rockin’ tonight, but no team has performed better on the road over the last two seasons than Miami.<\/p>\n The Hurricanes won eight conference road games last season (including a win at Virginia Tech) and they already have five this year.<\/p>\n We’ll gladly grab the points with the Hurricanes in this spot.
