Denver Nuggets vs New Orleans Pelicans Betting Preview<\/h2>\n

This will mark the third meeting of the season but the first here in Denver. The Pelicans won big back in December. More recently, the Nuggets eked out a 1-point win when these teams met last week. Nikola Jokic hit the game-winning shot with 16.9 seconds remaining.<\/p>\n

Both clubs could really use a victory. Still playing without Zion Williamson, the Pelicans have dropped eight straight. Denver’s 2-game skid is modest, by comparison.<\/p>\n

Denver Nuggets vs New Orleans Pelicans Betting Analysis<\/h2>\n

The New Orleans Pelicans travel to Ball Center in Denver to take on the Nuggets. At first glance, this looks like a mismatch.<\/p>\n

Not only have the Pelicans lost eight in a row but they’re also just 9-16 on the road. On the other hand, the Nuggets are an impressive 22-4, here in Denver.<\/p>\n

A closer look shows that the Pelicans only get outscored by a 117.5 to 115.6 average score on the road. They’re generally competitive.<\/p>\n

Denver averages more than 219 points at home. That’s ominous for New Orleans’ fans; the Pelicans are just 12-26-2 against the spread and 9-31 straight up their last 40, when facing an opponent which averages greater than 116 points per game.<\/p>\n

After three straight on the road, the Nuggets will be happy to return home. They’re a poor 10-17-1 ATS the past couple of seasons, after playing their previous three on the road. With Golden State on deck, could they get caught looking past the lowly Pelicans?<\/p>\n

Falling Total<\/h3>\n

I’m not touching the side in this game but I do quite like the total. You can find my O\/U winner here.<\/p>\n

The over\/under line opened at 234 or 234.5. It’s fallen from that number and is currently sitting at 231 or 232, at most shops.<\/p>\n

Both this season’s meetings have stayed below the total. Last week’s game was particularly low-scoring as the teams combined for only 195 points. While the majority of Denver home games have fallen below the total, the opposite is true of Pelican road games.<\/p>\n

Battle of the Big Men<\/h3>\n

Jokic had a 25\/11\/10 stat-line in last week’s game. In this season’s first meeting, he had 32 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists.<\/p>\n

Valanciunas got into foul trouble in the first game. He finished with only 13 points and two rebounds. He was better in last week’s game (14\/9) but again saw limited minutes, due to foul trouble.<\/p>\n

Cleary, this is a very tough matchup for Valanciunas. Though, to be fair, Jokic is a problem for everyone. Avoiding early fouls will be key<\/p>\n

Denver Nuggets vs New Orleans Pelicans Player Prop<\/span> Prediction<\/span><\/h2>\n

I’ve mentioned that Valanciunas has a tough matchup and that foul trouble may be an issue. I’ve also noted that Zion Williamson remains out.<\/p>\n

With Ingram still working his way back from injury, the Pelicans’ points are going to have to come from somewhere. I expect C.J. McCollum to have a big game.<\/p>\n

McCollum is averaging 24.9 points this month. He had 20 in last week’s game against the Nuggets, despite going 0-for-8 from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n

If he even connected on one of those 3-point attempts, he would have exceeded this number. He’ll be better from “downtown” tonight and that should lead to him scoring more than 22 total points.<\/p>\n
