Ottawa Senators vs New York Islanders Betting Analysis<\/h2>\n

Both the New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators enter Wednesday night’s matchup coming in off recent losing runs, and will look to turn things around respectively inside the Canadian Tire Center later tonight.<\/p>\n

The Islanders especially are in dire need of a win after dropping five straight games and have given up 4.2 goals per game on average to opponents across that losing run as well.<\/p>\n

Ottawa meanwhile haven\u2019t fared much better, getting hosed by the Winnipeg Jets in a 5-1 rout at home on Saturday, and have dropped three of their last four games at home also, giving up an average of 5.0 goals per game to opponents over that run.<\/p>\n

This will be the second of three meetings between the two sides this season after the Islanders took Game 1 in this venue back in November via a 4-2 win.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s been part and parcel of this series over recent seasons as well, with the Islanders winning 10 of their last 11 head-to-head meetings against the Senators and six of their last seven in this venue as well.<\/p>\n

Islanders Struggling To Hold On In Games<\/h3>\n

If first periods were full games, the New York Islanders might be in much better shape than they currently are as they\u2019ve scored first in four of their last five games over that losing run.<\/p>\n

However, from the second period on it\u2019s been all downhill for the Islanders as they\u2019ve been outscored by a huge 18-3 margin across those final ten periods and coach Lane Lambert really has his work cut out in terms of trying to maintain a greater focus for this team moving forward.<\/p>\n

Senators Still Need To Clean Up Opponent Conversion Percentage<\/h3>\n

The Ottawa Senators are doing well this year defensively, at least in data terms, ranking top five in the league on both defensive xGA and total scoring chances allowed this season.<\/p>\n

However, their opponent shot conversion percentages have been woeful, allowing 10.4% on total opponent shot conversion percentage this year (20th), and a massive 12.9% from inside the slot area as well (32nd\/last).<\/p>\n

Ottawa Senators vs New York Islanders Prediction<\/h2>\n

In terms of data at least, this sets up to be a really interesting matchup on Wednesday as the league\u2019s 5th best offensive xG side the New York Islanders take on the league\u2019s 5th best defensive xGA side the Ottawa Senators in an old-school offense versus defense matchup.<\/p>\n

However, data simply doesn\u2019t factor in form, and the New York Islanders are in a major slump right now, something that should favor the Senators at home here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

This isn’t a huge selection by any means in what should be a competitive matchup between the two teams, but if we\u2019re playing this game on Wednesday night, we\u2019re taking the home team Ottawa Senators in this one, or simply leaving the game alone.<\/p>\n
