Now the Championship is on the line between former champion and fan favourite Jan Blachowicz as he takes on surging Russian contender Magomed Ankalaev. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is a fun and intriguing matchup for the fans as both fighters are well-rounded and have finishing ability. This will be the 3rd UFC title fight Blachowicz enters as an underdog. <\/span><\/p>\n

Jan Blachowicz is 10-2 in his last 12 inside the Octagon, going 9-1 as an underdog. A ridiculous rate. Magomed Ankalaev has been dominant and a frontrunner as he’s gone 9-1 in the UFC, closing as the betting favourite in each fight.<\/p>\n

Polish Power<\/h3>\n

Jan Blachowicz is a genuinely inspirational story as he fought himself from the brink of being cut in the UFC to winning the Championship with his legendary polish power, knocking out his competition along the way.<\/p>\n

Blachowicz uses a power punching style with his strong kickboxing skills to open up his opponents. As we watched against Dominick Reyes, the body kicks of Blachowicz can do significant damage.<\/p>\n

He also uses excellent calf kicks, as we saw against Aleksandar Rakic, as he landed 14 of his 19 leg attempts.<\/p>\n

In this fight, he’ll be looking to keep this fight on the feet as he’s at a disadvantage on the ground with Ankalaev. He’ll have a significant experience edge that he needs to use as he can put some pressure on Ankalaev with his overpowering strikes.<\/p>\n

Dagestan Prospect<\/h3>\n

Magomed Ankalaev deserves this championship opportunity as he’s been dominant against some tough competition with wins over former three former title challengers in Thiago Santos, Volkan Oezdemir and Anthony Smith.<\/p>\n

Ankalaev has been prevalent in his UFC career as he’s earned three Performance Of The Night bonuses while out-landing his opponents 3.64 to 2.14 in significant strikes per minute in the UFC.<\/p>\n

In this matchup, I suspect Ankalaev to feel things out on the feet early on the feet while avoiding the power and then looking to use his takedowns and top control to wear down the polish bruiser. Ankalaev is a deserved favourite, but this is his toughest test.<\/p>\n

Jan Blachowicz vs Magomed Ankalaev Prediction<\/h2>\n

This is an exciting fight, and while both guys have paths to finding a finish, I foresee a feeling-out process along with some grappling sequences that’ll drain the clock.<\/p>\n

On the feet, I see this being a very close matchup as neither guy offers significant volume, and both guys will be wary of the other. I like the over in this championship fight.<\/p>\n
