Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Islanders Betting Analysis<\/h3>\n

The New York Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over their Big Apple Rivals from Manhattan as RW Kyle Palmieri got on the scoresheet twice in that one.<\/p>\n

The Carolina Hurricanes also snapped a mini two-game losing streak on Monday night as they beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 with goals from Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho, and Jesper Fast to close out the win up in Canada.<\/p>\n

These two teams met three times during the regular season last year with Carolina grabbing two of those victories, both home and away, by a comprehensive three-goal margin in each.<\/p>\n

Sorokin Impressing Early This Year<\/h3>\n

Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin came off an impressive effort on Wednesday night against the Rangers, shutting out the blue side of New York with the Rangers putting up 41 goal attempts in that game.<\/p>\n

That effort has continued to help the Islanders goalie up the NHL charts this season. Sorokin boasts the league\u2019s sixth-best overall GSAA average this season, along with four of his five starts ranking as quality outings in net.<\/p>\n

Carolina\u2019s Defense Impressing This Season<\/h3>\n

The Hurricanes bring in some of the league’s best defensive numbers as Carolina currently ranks No. 2 in overall shots allowed per game, giving up just 25.83 on average, along with having the league\u2019s third-best goals against average as well at just 2.33 per game.<\/p>\n

The data backs those figures up also with the Hurricanes ranking second overall in the league this season on defensive xGA behind only the New Jersey Devils, and have also allowed the fewest number of high-danger scoring opportunities to opponents this season as well.<\/p>\n

Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Islanders Prediction<\/h2>\n

While Sorokin has been performing above expectations this year and Carolina\u2019s defense has been on-point throughout the season as a whole, this is a game that could well tip over the total between the Islanders and the Hurricanes here on Friday night over at PNC Arena.<\/p>\n

Despite their respectable surface numbers on defense this year, the Islanders rank 27th in the league this season on overall defensive xGA, and are allowing the second-most high-danger scoring opportunities to opponents this season also.<\/p>\n

Those are areas league joint-top scorer Andrei Svechnikov can likely take advantage of in this one, and the Islanders also have firepower of their own in both Anders Lee and Oliver Wahlstrom.<\/p>\n

The over has gone 16-5-1 in the Islanders’ last 22 games following a win in their previous matchup and we expect them to bring that same momentum here as they push this one over the total on Friday night at a nice plus money price.<\/p>\n

Take the over between the Hurricanes and Islanders, which is widely available at 6 (plus-money), with a handful of 5.5’s out there as well.<\/p>\n\n\n
