Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Analysis<\/h2>\n

The New York Yankees travel to Fenway Park to begin a short two game series against their division rivals the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox played the role of spoiler and prevailed in two of three games in Baltimore against the Orioles. <\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile the Yankees won two of three home games against the Tampa Bay Rays to protect their division lead. New York will send their ace Gerrit Cole to the mound while Boston counters with crafty veteran Nick Pivetta. First pitch is slated for 7:10 PM EST\/4:10 PST.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pivetta Looks For Quality Start Against Yankees<\/h3>\n

The Boston Red Sox bounced back from four straight losses with two straight wins to close out their series in Baltimore against the Orioles. They hammered the O’s 17-4 on Saturday and followed it up with a workmanlike 1-0 victory on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Rich Hill tossed five scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and three walks while four different relievers each maned a full scoreless inning to close out the game. Xander Bogaerts had the games lone RBI with a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning.<\/p>\n

Their record currently sits at three games below .500 at 69-72, good for last place in the American League East. The Sox have averaged 5.5 runs over their last 10 games but it’s too little too late. Nick Pivetta will take the hill on Tuesday night for Red Sox Nation, he is 9-11 with a 4.29 ERA on the season.<\/p>\n

Pivetta has been horrendous against the Bronx Bombers this season as he has allowed 17 earned runs across only 13.1 innings of work. Pivetta is 0-2 with a bloated 11.48 ERA in his three starts against them.<\/p>\n

Bombers Still Control The East<\/h3>\n

The New York Yankees have quietly won six of their last eight games after taking two of three games against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend. After losing 4-2 on the Friday the Yanks smashed the Rays by a combined score of 20-7 in the next two games.<\/p>\n

Sunday was an all out bullpen game where eight different arms were utilized. Domingo German served as the opener and Wandy Peralta picked up the victory. Gleyber Torres went 2 for 4 while hitting his 20th and 21st homeruns of the season.<\/p>\n

The Yankees hold a 5.5 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays and 6 game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East despite hitting a rough patch in early August. Aaron Judge has been the toast of the town with his league leading 55 long balls.<\/p>\n

Gerrit Cole will take the mound in hopes of another quality start. Cole is 11-7 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.02 WHIP on the season. He has also struck out 218 hitters while walking only 42 across 171.1 innings of work. Cole hasn’t been particularly sharp against the Sox as he allowed 10 earned runs in 17 innings against them.<\/p>\n

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Prediction<\/h2>\n

The New York Yankees are road favorites with a money line set at -165 while the Boston Red Sox sit at +140 with a total of 8.5. Although the Yankees have the far superior record on the season, they only lead the regular season series 7-6 over the Boston Red Sox.<\/p>\n

The Yankees offense could have taken a huge step back last week with Andrew Benintendi, DJ LeMahieu and Anthony Rizzo all winding up on the IL. However their young players stepped up and they managed to score 20 runs in their last two games.<\/p>\n

We mentioned Pivettas struggles against the Yankees with his three starts totaling 6, 17 and 15 runs. Aaron Judge has a career batting average of .375 against him while Giancarlo Stanton is batting over .400. Fenway Park has been a house of horrors for Gerrit Cole as he has posted a career 5.45 ERA in seven outings.<\/p>\n

Current Red Sox sluggers own a career .282 batting average against him. On top of that the wind is blowing out at 10 MPH at Fenway tonight and the Boston bullpen is horrendous. Ride the trends and back the over on what seems to be a low total of 8.5.<\/p>\n
