The Arizona Diamondbacks host the Philadelphia Phillies in the last of a three game series. The desert hasn’t been good to the visitors, as they’ve lost the first two games and allowed 25 runs.<\/p>\n
It’s a battle of southpaws as Bailey Falter gets the start against Tommy Henry, first pitch at Chase Field is set for 9:40 PM EDT.<\/p>\n
Phillies Pitching Getting Torched<\/h3>\n
The best thing you can say about this series for Philadelphia comes from 80’s pop star Howard Jones: Things can only get better. At least they hope so, after losing the first two games by a combined score of 25 to 10.<\/p>\n
Bailey Falter is a relief pitcher turned starter for the Phillies, and has shown solid improvement this season. His 2022 numbers aren’t fantastic with a 4.41 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP, but is in good current form.<\/p>\n
The Phils southpaw has turned in quality starts in his last three outings, 6.0 innings and allowing three earned runs or less. However, he did give up two bombs in his last start versus the Pirates, and has allowed six home runs in his last seven starts.<\/p>\n
Arizona Hot As Can Be<\/h3>\n\nThe Diamondbacks have played much better than their 51-win campaign last year, with a 61-67 record. They’ve struggled with inconsistent hitting and one of the worst bullpens in MLB, but manager Torey Lovullo has done an excellent job with this team.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Arizona wisely exercised their club option to retain Lovullo for 2023. The race for NL Manager of the Year award is probably between Buck Showalter and Arizona’s skipper.<\/p>\n
