Sampdoria vs Atalanta Analysis<\/h3>\n

The new Serie A season kicks off on Saturday as both Atalanta and Sampdoria will look to have much better seasons than they experienced last year in the Italian league.<\/p>\n

After an impressive third-place finish two seasons ago, Atalanta drifted out massively last year, ranking all the way down in eighth position in the table and lost out on European football as a result.<\/p>\n

Sampdoria for their part were far worse, avoiding relegation by just six points and ranked as the third worst team on overall total points accumulated over 2022 and second worst on xPTS also, so they’ll have a huge fight ahead of them this season in order to survive.<\/p>\n

Atalanta have comprehensively beaten Sampdoria in each of their last three head-to-heads by a combined 9-1 scoreline. However, Sampdoria have avoided defeat against Atalanta in six of the last nine games taking place in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.<\/p>\n

Gasperini Needs To Avoid Collapse<\/h3>\n

As poor as Sampdoria were to finish out 2022, Atalanta weren\u2019t far behind them, registering the exact same number of wins as Sampdoria over the calendar year, and that\u2019s something Gasperini\u2019s men desperately need to avoid ahead of this season.<\/p>\n

That being said, Atalanta are a team known for starting hot, winning each of their last four opening day Serie A games, so they\u2019ll no doubt be buoyed by that fact heading into this game.<\/p>\n

Inability To Grind Out Results A Major Concern For Sampdoria<\/h3>\n

Despite having five wins over the 2022 calendar year, the same as Atalanta, it was Sampdoria\u2019s inability to grind out results that was the most worrying factor last season.<\/p>\n

Sampdoria had just one draw over 2022, the league\u2019s lowest rate, and accompanied that with thirteen losses, the league\u2019s highest, so Sampdoria will really need to find a way to grind out tough results this year if they\u2019re going to maintain their status in the top flight of Italian football.<\/p>\n

Sampdoria vs Atalanta Prediction<\/h3>\n

The Under 3 goals is going off at a -133 in this one and that\u2019s the way we\u2019re looking to play this game on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Contrary to Atalanta, Sampdoria have lost each of their last four opening day Serie A games without even scoring a single goal, and with Mikkel Damsgaard leaving for the EPL as well, that run could well continue into Saturday also.<\/p>\n

Atalanta, despite their issues last season, still ranked top seven in the league in terms of defensive goals allowed, and we can see them continuing that here in limiting a fairly stunted Sampdoria attack in this one.<\/p>\n
