The home team surprised the visitors with a 16-5 shellacking at Coors Field.<\/p>\n The Rockies bats came to life as they shelled Miles Mikolas for 14 hits and 10 earned runs in just 2.2 innings, and this one was over early. Tonight the Redbirds will send Jose Quintana to the mound against Kyle Freeland, first pitch is scheduled for 8:40 PM EDT.<\/p>\n Cardinals Look For Revenge<\/h3>\nThe Cards have done a lot of things well the last few weeks, and one of them is hitting left-handed pitching. In the last 30 days, St. Louis has the 3rd best OPS versus southpaws at .817 and a team batting average of .266. Tonight they face a lefty in Kyle Freeland who’s struggled pitching at Coors Field this season, with a 5.55 ERA in 11 starts.<\/p>\n Jose Quintana was picked up before the trade deadline from the Pirates, and seems to be a good addition to the Cardinals’ starting rotation.<\/p>\n He isn’t a flame-thrower or overpowering pitcher – his fastball velocity is in the lowest 19th percentile per Baseball Savant – but he has been effective. The southpaw has a 3-5 record with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP.<\/p>\n Freeland Fighting Back?<\/h3>\nEarlier this year the numbers showed the Rockies crushed left-handed pitching. However, they haven’t been as dominant against lefties the last 30 days with a 14th best OPS. And they’re still 10th best in overall OPS for the season, as the largest outfield in MLB helps boost batting average and on-base percentage<\/p>\n For some unknown reason, the Rockies gave Kyle Freeland a 5-year extension earlier this season. But that investment doesn’t seem to have paid off as the southpaw has struggled both at and away from Coors Field. He has a 7-7 record with a 4.56 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP.<\/p>\n Freeland has had decent control with a walk rate of less than three free passes per nine innings. However, he’s given up more hits than you’d like to see, over one base knock per inning for the season.<\/p>\n This rate is slightly better on the road than at home, but it’s still too high for a major league starter. And especially going against a Cardinals lineup with Paul Goldschmidt and former Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Colorado Rockies vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction<\/h2>\nLast night was one of those games where it doesn’t play out like you predicted. Tuesday night’s rout should take any “fat and sassy” or overconfidence out of St. Louis, and the Redbirds should be focused and ready to play tonight.<\/p>\n I’ll give Quintana a small edge over Freeland, and the visitors have the better bullpen. But I don’t see either lineup having a big advantage, as they’re both at the hitters’ paradise known as Coors Canaveral.<\/p>\n The Cardinals are obviously the better team, and this looks to be a good bounce-back spot.
