The course plays short with both par-5s reachable by almost everyone in the field while also featuring eight par-4s coming in at under 450 yards.

The greens can be tough, as most Donald Ross designs have similar small, fast, undulating greens. However, because of the short length, players tend to have no problem finding greens and making a ton of birdies as five of the last six winners have come in at least 21-under par.

It is worth noting that the course is wall-to-wall Bermuda grass and players from the Southeast (United States) have fared well here over the years as they are obviously familiar with the surface. Last year we saw Russell Henley jump ahead of the pack and lead after each of the first three rounds before collapsing on Sunday and ultimately missing out on the record setting six-man playoff which was won by Kevin Kisner.

But ultimately, the story this week is the mad dash for points as players scramble to get themselves inside the top-125 in the FedexCup as the Playoffs are set to start next week. So, it would make sense that this week’s field is littered with guys on the cusp while all the best players take the week off in preparation for three-straight weeks of playoff golf in the race for the $18M prize for the FedexCup Champion.

How have those borderline players fared in the past? I’m glad you asked. In each of the last three seasons, here is how players ranked No. 120 thru No. 130 have finished:

2019: Eight of 11 made the cut, but only three in the Top-40 and two in the Top-13.
2020: Five of 11 made the cut, with only two in the Top-40 which both happened to be Top-10s.
2021: Six of 11 made the cut, four of them finishing in the Top-30, including two in the Top-15.

Bottom line: Don’t expect big things from the majority of those on the edge of qualification, which makes sense. They haven’t been great all season, so just because they need to be this week, doesn’t mean they will. Instead, if you can find any decent + money prices on them to miss the cut, don’t be scared to fire away as more than 40-percent of them have done so the last three seasons.

Nick’s Wyndham Championship Betting Favorites

From Nick Borrman: As most weeks this year have proven, when looking for uutright winners, don’t venture too far outside the top-10 Strokes Gained chart, while at the same time, don’t expect big things from players than need a big week. Stick with your tried-and-true formula that has gotten us to this 46th and final PGA Tour event of the season.

Sungjae Im +1800 (Bet365) | Top-10 +230 (Bet365)
If not for Tony Finau, we might be talking about Im going for back-to-back PGA Tour wins as Sungjae finished co-runner-up two weeks ago at the 3M Open. That was an important result for him as he has been battling a back injury that saw him miss the cut in two of his last three starts with his only cut made a T81 at the Open Championship.

However, Im is a proven workhorse on the PGA Tour and finished inside the top-21 in five-straight events before his injury. Im ranks No. 11 this year in Strokes Gained off-the-tee, which Finau has proven the last two weeks can be the key to victory, while also ranking No. 6 in Strokes Gained around the green, No. 10 tee-to-green and No. 12 overall.

Sungjae has made the cut in all three starts at Sedgefield with two top-10s and a scoring average of 66.4. No reason to think he won’t be going low again this week.

Si Woo Kim +2800 (DK) | Top-10 +300 (Bet365)
While outside the top-10 Strokes Gained over the last six months, Si Woo isn’t too far behind at No. 16. However, his history here is nothing short of remarkable. He earned his breakthrough PGA Tour victory here in 2016 and has finished inside the top-5 in each of his last three starts at Sedgefield with a combined score of 47-under par.

Si Woo is also hot coming in with back-to-back top-15 finishes at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and the Open Championship. He has three Tour wins in his career, one of them was The Players Championship, but the other two came with winning scores of 21-under and 23-under proving he can win when the scoring is low. He also tends to play very well at the same venue as evidenced by both his record here, and a T11 at the American Express this year where he also previously won.

If nothing else, expect Kim on the weekend as he has only missed five cuts in 26 starts this year and has finished inside the Top-25 eleven times, making his current +150 price for a Top-20 rather attractive.

BEST BET | Sebastian Munoz Top-40 -125 (DK)
Munoz has quietly been playing very consistently this year, making the cut in 16 of 22 events played. More recently, he has been finishing higher on the leaderboard as he has finished inside the top-40 in ten of his last 14 starts including a T14 at the US Open, but perhaps more importantly, a T3 at the AT&T Byron Nelson at 24-under par. He opened that tournament with a 60 in the first round, which was the second time he has done that this season.

Munoz ranks No. 6 in this field in Total Strokes Gained over the last six months, gaining strokes in all five measured categories, and has gotten better at Sedgefield each year with his best finish coming last year with a T29.

Interested in placing a bet on this week’s Wyndham Championship in North Carolina?

Interested in placing a bet on this week's Wyndham Championship in North Carolina?
